Landscapes were his most popular subject. Some featuring Sea and Sky, some of winter scenes and in this gallery the inland waterways and landscapes.

This painting is based on Foxhill Bridge at Foxhill Lake in Bowie, MD, though many elements were created from his imagination.

Dad spent part of his youth in rural Carroll County, MD, and had a fondness for the area. He would sometimes spend weekends driving the family around up there to admire the rural scenery (not always a fun activity from the backseat kid perspective). One site we would stop at regularly was this beautiful old mill that he called Otterdale Mill (since it was on a road with the same name.)

Dad of course admired many artists, one of them being Andrew Wyeth. We went to the Brandywine River Museum in Chadds Ford, PA several times to see their large collection of Andrew Wyeth’s work. On one trip, we drove by this property because dad thought for some reason that it was associated with Andrew Wyeth or the Wyeth family. I don’t know if it did, but he took a picture of it and created this beautiful fall scene.
